Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shankar Anoushka Shankar, a British American musician and sitarist is best known for her music. She was the youngest and first woman to receive an award from the British House of Commons Shield she has had nine Grammy Awards nominations and was the first artist of Indian origin to play live on stage and also act as a host at the award ceremony. Anoushka Shankar is among India's rising stars in the sitar. She is Ravi Shankar's pupil, and the daughter of Ravi Shankar. Born in London and grew up in New Delhi, she spent the beginning of her career traveling between London as well as New Delhi. As a teenager when her first performance in New Delhi took place. She graduated in 1999 from her high school studies at Encinitas CA. Anouskha, who is only 17 years old, has had a successful performing and recording career. Since quite some time, she performs regularly alongside her father. She made Anourag her first album solo in 1998. Her Grammy-nominated Live At Carnegie Hall album was released in 2002. Alongside performing at many of the biggest venues and venues, she also has an extensive stage presence. Anoushka's career does not only include musical performances. In 2002, she wrote the book Bapi The love of My Live this is a pictorial biography which gives a special tribute to her father Ravi Shankar. She has also acted in a number of films. In 2003, she was in the movie Dance Like a Man where she portrays a young Bharat Natyam performer. Anoushka Shankar's professional career is continuing to develop and we are likely to see a variety of things from her in the years to come. Anoushka Shankar was born and raised in England and spent the majority of her youth living between London and Delhi then moving to California in the state where she attended the high school. In Delhi during his birthday celebrations for his 75th birthday, Anoushka made her debut performing the sitar in front of an audience four years following her nine-year-old father. As a part of her dad's band as he toured the world Anoushka was able to accumulate a variety of experience performing at Carnegie Hall while still in her teens, performing in Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival, and also making recordings together with George Harrison. The youngest female to receive the House of Commons Shield, awarded by British Parliament in recognition of her musicianship and artistry within the Asian Arts.
